What is the difference between a bikini wax, a French bikini, and a Brazilian?

A bikini wax takes everything that falls outside your normal panty line, and you can add the backside if you want it. A French bikini takes more from the front, leaving roughly a two-finger-wide strip, with the labia untouched. A Brazilian removes everything front to back, including the labia and between the cheeks, or leaves a strip if you prefer. Most first-timers who are not sure start with a bikini and move up from there.

How long does my hair need to be for a bikini wax?

About three to four weeks of growth, roughly the length of a grain of rice. Do not shave before your appointment, since the wax needs something to grip. If it is longer than that, leave it and we will trim in the room. Shaving between visits is the one thing that resets your progress, because the hair comes back coarser.

Does a bikini wax hurt?

Less than a Brazilian, and less than most people expect. The bikini line is a smaller area with less sensitive skin than the center, and we use soft wax with a quick, practiced technique that keeps each pull short. The first appointment is the most noticeable, and by the second or third the hair is finer and it is a few seconds of sting at most.

How long does a bikini wax last?

Three to six weeks of smooth skin, depending on how fast your hair grows. Most clients rebook every four to six weeks, and staying on that schedule is what makes each wax easier and longer-lasting, because the hair grows back finer and sparser over time.

We provide disposable panties for every bikini and French bikini wax so you do not get wax on your own, and they will be laid out in the room. Freshly waxed skin does not love friction, so skip tight jeans, leggings, and lace for the rest of the day.

What should I do before a bikini wax?

Let the hair grow for three to four weeks, skip shaving and exfoliating for a few days beforehand, and avoid heavy workouts, tanning, and retinol on the area the day before. If you are sensitive, an over-the-counter pain reliever 30 to 45 minutes before your appointment is fine. A quick shower before you come in is all the prep the area needs.

How do I prevent ingrown hairs after a bikini wax?

Exfoliate gently starting 48 hours after your wax and keep it up two or three times a week between appointments. We use Smooth Operator by Just The Strip in the studio, an ingrown-prevention product that comes as a roll-on or pads, and it is what we recommend at home. Loose clothing on wax day and no shaving between visits also make a big difference.

Can I get a bikini wax on my period or while pregnant?

Yes to both. On your period, wear a tampon or menstrual cup and come in as planned, though the skin can be a little more sensitive that week, so if you have flexibility the week after is more comfortable. During pregnancy, waxing is safe for most people and plenty of our clients continue right through, so just tell your esthetician and check with your provider if you have any pregnancy-related skin concerns.
